We had a very, very long trip from New York to Singapore.....and for the first 20 hours we were on a flight with 31 babies. As each of them cried for take-off, Jack commented that "it wasn't very relaxing." While take-off and landing had the most crying, there really wasn't a minute of the entire NY - Hong Kong flight that at least one wasn't crying. Philip and I felt that it was appropriate karma as we have certainly flown with our own crying babies plenty of times.
It was nice to have our first stop be Singapore as it feels a bit familiar. We are staying at the Orchard Parade Hotel at the end of Orchard Road which is a great location. We were upgraded to a Jr. Suite and there is a really lovely pool, what more could you ask for?
We did a lot of walking the first day with very tired kids. While there was quite a bit of complaining along the way, considering that they woke up at 12am they were remarkable. We walked all the way down Orchard Road, through the old Colonial district (including the lovely Raffles Hotel) and then took a boat tour on the river. The highlight of the day was lunch at our favorite hawker market Kopitiam, where Sam had her first Chicken Rice, a dish that the different hawker stalls seem to be very competitive about. To our delight she liked it! We have high hopes for this trip expanding Sam's culinary repertoire. Jack, alas, boycotted the food and must be starving as he would rather not eat than try anything.
Sunday we went to visit the Tanglin Club where Philip's grandparents met in the early 1920s. They wouldn't let us in, but we walked around the outside and at least got to see it. It must have been quite an adventure to have been in Singapore in those days and we talked alot about how surprised they would be to see modern Singapore. There are so many new buildings and so much construction that it seems to change almost daily.
Tonight Philip is leaving for Kathmandu and we go to Bali. While the kids and I are excited to go back to Bali we are really going to miss Philip, especially on his birthday (Tuesday). Since we are going to have a very quiet few weeks in Bali I intend to learn how to upload pictures and will add some from Singapore in the next few days. I'll also share any news of Philip's adventure to keep you posted on where he is and how he is doing. Thank you for all of the posts -- it is so nice to see messages and feel connected.

From Kizzie and Jo to Sam and Jack
We miss you guys too! We are in this strange house with another cat that we have not met yet. We spend most of the day asleep under their (W & J's) bed and most of the night having the run of the house. We have plenty to eat and we are quite happy.
Will send you another message soon.
Meeows from us both - K and J
omg - what a trip! Here's hoping your time there is much better than your flight.
